Privacy Policy

Who We Are

Sturse is operated by Sturse LLC, a New York limited liability company ("Sturse", "we", "us", or "our"), which is the controller of the personal information described in this Privacy Policy. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you give us:

• Account details — your name and email address, and your password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.
• Profile details you choose to add — such as your school or nursing program and your expected graduation date.
• Your study content — the documents you upload (slides, notes, PDFs, and other files), and what you create with Sturse: quizzes and your answers, flashcards, study guides, highlights and notes, and the questions you ask in chat.
• Messages and survey answers — emails you send us and any answers you give to in-app questions or research requests.
• Payment details — payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your billing name, email, country or postal code (for tax), and the last four digits and brand of your card. We never see or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically:

• Usage and device data — pages visited, features used, IP address, browser and device type, and server logs.
• How you found us — if you arrive from an ad or a link, we record campaign details from the link (such as utm tags, a referral or creator code, or Meta's click identifier) and attach them to your account when you sign up.
• Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 7.

Please don't upload patient information. Sturse is a study tool. Remove patient names and other identifying details from clinical notes before uploading them.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the Service — store your documents and turn them into quizzes, study guides, flashcards, and chat answers
• Save questions generated from your documents so we can show them to you again later (these are used only for your own account)
• Process payments, prevent fraud, and handle billing questions
• Send account and billing messages, and — unless you unsubscribe — occasional product updates and requests for feedback
• Understand how people find and use Sturse, and measure whether our ads work (see Section 7)
• Keep the Service secure, enforce usage limits, and fix problems
• Comply with the law

We do not use your documents to train AI models, and our AI providers do not use them to train their models either.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described here.

Service providers that process data on our behalf to run Sturse:

• Supabase — database, sign-in, and file storage
• Anthropic — the AI that reads your documents and writes your study guides, flashcards, rationales, and chat answers
• Google (Gemini API) — the AI that reads your documents and writes your quiz questions
• CloudConvert — converts PowerPoint, Word, and similar files to PDF when you upload them
• Stripe — payments, subscriptions, and sales tax
• Vercel and Railway — website and server hosting; Vercel also provides cookieless visit statistics
• Resend and Google Workspace — sending and receiving email
• Google — also provides sign-in, only if you choose "Sign in with Google"

Advertising measurement. We share limited information with Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to measure and improve our ads — see Section 7 for exactly what, and how to opt out.

People you share with. If you share a quiz, anyone with the link can see the quiz questions, the name of the document it came from, and your first name.

Other cases. We may disclose information to comply with the law or a valid legal request, to protect the rights and safety of our users or of Sturse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information).

Data Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls that limit who can see account data, and providers that maintain their own security programs. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you as required by law.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in Settings; when you do, we delete your documents, study materials, and profile. We keep billing and tax records for as long as the law requires, and limited server logs may remain in backups for a short period before they are overwritten.

Cookies, Tracking, and Ads

Essential storage. We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to remember settings such as your theme and your last-opened page. The Service doesn't work without it.

Visit statistics. Vercel Web Analytics counts page visits without cookies and without identifying you.

Meta Pixel and Conversions API. Our website uses the Meta Pixel, which sets a cookie and tells Meta when a visitor views a page, creates an account, or subscribes. When you subscribe, our server also sends Meta a "purchase" event containing a hashed (scrambled) copy of your email address and account ID, the plan and amount, and Meta's click and browser identifiers if you arrived from a Meta ad. Meta uses this to tell us which ads led to sign-ups and to show our ads to people more likely to find Sturse useful. Under some state laws, including California's, this may be considered "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising.

How to opt out:

• Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we do not load the Meta Pixel, and we mark your account so that no purchase event is sent to Meta.
• By email. Email contact@sturseai.com with the subject "Do Not Share" and we will stop sending your information to Meta.
• You can also block third-party cookies in your browser and manage ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings.

Emails

We send account and billing emails (like sign-in and password links, receipts, and billing problems) that you can't opt out of while you have an account. Product updates, tips, and feedback requests include an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop them.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other U.S. states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your information
• Opt out of the "sharing" or "sale" of your information and of targeted advertising (see Section 7)
• Not be treated differently for exercising these rights

To make a request, email contact@sturseai.com from the address on your account, or have an authorized agent contact us on your behalf. We will verify your request and respond within 45 days. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision; if your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general.

We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not sell or share the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16.

Children's Privacy

Sturse is built for nursing students and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us.

Academic Institution Policies

If you are using Sturse in connection with an academic institution (school, college, university, or nursing program), please be aware of the following:

• Respect your institution's policies regarding recording, sharing, or distributing educational content
• Do not upload or process recorded lectures, class materials, or other copyrighted educational content without proper authorization
• Some institutions prohibit the recording or distribution of lectures and course materials
• Always obtain necessary permissions before uploading any content that may be subject to institutional policies
• We reserve the right to refuse processing of content that may violate academic integrity policies

By using our Service, you acknowledge that you are responsible for ensuring compliance with your institution's policies and applicable laws regarding educational content.

Subscription and Refund Policy

Our subscription and billing policies are described in full in our Terms of Service:

• No Refunds: All payments are final and non-refundable, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
• Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
• Cancel Anytime: You may cancel at any time in Settings → Manage Billing and keep access through the end of the current paid period.

Where Your Data Is Processed

Sturse and its service providers are based in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. If you use Sturse from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to the United States.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date, and if a change is significant we will also notify you by email or in the app.
